ELMA Heightens Awareness of Logistics Management

A record number of entrepreneurs have expressed interest in joining the ELMA Award for this year’s most outstanding export logistics providers, producers and exporters.

Official launching of Export Logistics Model Award (ELMA) on June 12, 2013, prompted large companies as well as small & medium-sized enterprises to apply for participation in the contest.  Starting from July 20 through to August 19, 2013, the eminently qualified Board of Committees will carry out evaluation based on reports and presentations submitted by individual companies, to be followed by on-site assessment.  Final results of the ELMA Award contest will be announced during the Thailand International Logistics Fair in BITEC Bangna on September 4, 2013.

The Department of International Trade Promotion, ELMA Award sponsor, realized that several small & medium-sized enterprises were determined to upgrade their logistics capability, but they were not ready to present their corporate performance in 7 areas of the selection criteria, namely, business vision, leadership, strategic planning, customer service, marketing & IT applications, logistics management processes, and bottom line results of logistics management.

Responding to this need, the Department of International Trade Promotion organized 3 training sessions on June 22 at Four Wings Hotel, and subsequently on July 11-12 at the Thai International Shippers’ Council and Thai Federation on Logistics, respectively.  The purpose of these training sessions was to help interested companies prepare their organization’s report, and to explain the methodology as well as the Organization Report for ELMA 2013 to would-be participants.

Apart from winning the ELMA award, participants will benefit from the selfassessment exercise and the opportunity to benchmark the actual status of their own businesses against ELMA’s world class standard.  Award winners can also make use of the ELMA Award logo to enhance various PR campaigns and strengthen customer confidence at home and abroad.

"ELMA is an excellent brand which not only signifies a high level of service quality but also contributes to long-term brand building.  DHL has won many international logistics awards but we also wanted to benchmark our performance against Thailand’s quality standards and finally we succeeded in winning the ELMA Award as well as the prestigious Prime Minister’s Business Enterprise Award.  Although DHL is a well known international brand, we also want to secure local customers’ confidence.  Thanks to ELMA Award, we have succeeded in consolidating DHL’s reputation for high quality services,” said Ms. Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina.

Because ELMA is a trade logo which signifies world class logistics standard, it has become a marketing tool for showcasing the bearer’s comparative advantage and customer confidence in terms of efficient delivery of goods and services.  ELMA challenges Thai entrepreneurs to test their awareness of the importance of sound logistics management.
