6 Top Thai Enterprises Win World Class ELMA Award

The Department of International Trade Promotion announced the results of ELMA Award at Thailand International Logistics Fair (TILOG 2013). By applying the concepts implemented by these prototype companies, international trading companies in Thailand can upgrade their logistics systems to meet world class standards.

This year, 6 winners of the Export Logistics Model Award in the category of international trading companies or logistics service users were as follows: Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Co., Ltd., C.P. Intertrade Co., Ltd., CPF (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd. (Food Processing Saraburi), Milott Laboratories Co., Ltd., Amphol Food Processing Co., Ltd., and Srithai Superware Public Co., Ltd.

Mrs. Duangkamol Jiambutr, Deputy Director General, Department of International Trade Promotion, noted that Export Logistics Model Award or ELMA presents a good opportunity for Thai entrepreneurs to showcase their outstanding logistics management capability in international arena. ELMA logo not only guarantees professional logistics management but also challenges Thai enterprises to Benchmark their corporate performance against world class standards within the framework of ELMA assessment criteria.”

ELMA Award is highly regarded by international trading companies because it combines universally accepted indicators of business performance excellence with the criteria for measuring logistics efficiency, namely, Malcolm Baldrige Framework, European Framework for Quality Management, and Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) Model.

6 Prototypes for Logistics Excellence

Charoen Pokphand Foods focuses on visibility. Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Co., Ltd., or CPF, industry leader in fully integrated agro businesses, won ELMA 2013 for outstanding logistics support services which make use of customer relations and state-of-the-art IT system to enhance visibility and quick response to customer needs. These management tools facilitate various aspects of business transactions, from handling purchase orders, follow up documentation, through to confirmation of shipment status at the final destination.

“C.P. Intertrade” integrates transportation by ships. C.P. Intertrade Co., Ltd., produces 1.65 million tons of rice brand “Royal Umbrella” and handles domestic/export distribution in some 120 countries worldwide. The company had the highest ranking in terms of excellent production logistics which relies on centralized production control center. Strategic business location in close proximity to raw material sources also minimized transportation time while inland port development facilitated transfer of goods to international ports, safety control and environmental protection, along with substantial savings in transportation & logistics costs.

CPF prototype for transporting live chicken to processing plant. CPF (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd. (Food Processing Saraburi), which produces fresh refrigerated /frozen chicken meat for both the domestic and export markets, offers excellent logistics management and Just in time transportation of live chicken from farm to processing plant, in accordance with trading partners’ Animal Welfare requirements. The company’s state-of-the-art continuous production chain and fully integrated IT applications also enable speedy and accurate performance analysis.

Milott Laboratories highlights excellent IT system. Milott Laboratories Co., Ltd., produces a wide range of cosmetics in the category of Skincare Personal Care, Color Cosmetics, Hair Care, Nail Care, Toiletries and Household products which are distributed in 37 countries. Customer list includes over 100 global brands such as Unilever, Kose, Juju, Shiseido, Anna Sui, Maybelline/L’Oreal, Boots, Colgate-Palmolive, DKSH, Thann, Harnn, etc.

Excellent logistics management enables effective quality control system covering over 30,000 SKU, 60,000 packaging materials, over 10,000 raw materials, which add up to around 100,000 items under production control system.

“Amphol Food” showcases green & zero waste concepts. Amphol Food Processing Co., Ltd., renowned producer and distributor of food and beverages which include the Chaokoh brand of UHT coconut milk, Roi Thai ready to cook ingredients, showcases computerized production and storage control to optimize logistics management, along with implementation of the “‘green organization” and fully integrated zero waste concepts. Every component of the coconut is manufactured into products or processed goods, including the UHT packaging which feeds the production line for classroom desks and chairs to minimize global warming.

“Srithai Superware” focuses on costs and productivity. Srithai Superware Public Co., Ltd., Korat Branch, is the world’s largest producer of plastic parts for industrial applications and household products made of 100% melamine. Output is exported to more than 121 countries worldwide. The company’s competitive edge lies in its 3 dimensional Internal Logistics Concept. The main objective of Green Logistics, Lean Logistics, and Logistics Innovation is to lower logistics costs and ensure efficient resource utilization while modern IT system ensures efficient flow of melamine products. In the Green Logistics dimension, the company shifted to NGV trucks and initiated the 2-way Full Truck Load program. Efforts were also made to develop equipment designs and production lines to simplify work procedures, facilitate storage, save labor and production time.
